Making Better Decisions

Difficulty in making decisions can be caused by several factors, such as a fear of failure, a fear that others might not agree with you, and a lack of confidence or information.

The first thing any anyone should do when faced with a decision is ask God’s advice.

Think back to a decision you made that you now regret. We’ve all done things that weigh us down and make us wonder, “Why do I seem to do what I know is wrong?”

I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway. ~ Romans 7:19

Because of Jesus, we are no longer condemned. Even though we will still struggle between what’s right and wrong, we are no longer enslaved to sin, or sentenced to an eternity separated from God.

Our old nature is marked by a desire to do whatever seems pleasing to us in the moment, regardless of the consequences.

And while this might feel freeing at times, it ultimately leads to conflict, chaos, and destruction.

Making decisions can be difficult. But when we humble ourselves and seek God’s guidance, we can be confident in the outcome of the choices we make.

Everyday, allow Jesus to show you what He has saved you from, and then take a few minutes to thank Him for all that He has done for you.

What Is The Beauty Of Life

The beauty of life is, while we cannot undo what is done, we can see it, understand it, learn from it and change so that every new moment is spent not in regret, guilt, fear or anger but in wisdom, understanding and love.

Look at the picture blow and answer these questions:

Where is the money that has made you so disrespectful?

Where is the beauty that has made you so proud and pompous?

Where are the breasts and buttocks that you spent money to enlarge to the neglect of your family and friends?

Where are the cars that have made you feel like you are better than others?

Where are the certificates and accolades that have made you a boss, and therefore your staff play second fiddle to you?

Where are the friends that flank you to fool you and make you feel important?

Where are the property for which you are willing to destroy a fellow human being to get?

How beautiful are you in the grave?

IT IS GOOD TO BE RICH, IT IS GOOD TO OWN PROPERTY, IT IS GOOD TO BE BEAUTIFUL, BUT IN ALL THESE,
LET HUMANITY BE YOUR PRIORITY.

THE GRAVE IS THE ONLY PLACE THAT THE RICH AND THE POOR BECOME EQUAL. ENJOY YOUR WEALTH, BUT LET HUMANITY BE FIRST.

    Worry Less

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:6-7

Think about a time when you were worried.

How did you deal with it?

Maybe you tried to distract yourself, or perhaps you let your mind race through your problems.

It’s natural to want to respond to our worries this way, but God shows us a better way to respond.

So take some time today to reflect on some of the situations that are causing you to worry.

Then, take a moment to tell God that you trust Him with each of these circumstances.

Imagine handing Him each concern, and allow Him to hand you His peace in return.

The man thinks its rather odd, but lets him sleep.

After about an hour the dog wakes up, walks to the door and the guy lets him out.

The dog wags his tale and leaves.

The next day the dog comes back and scratches at the door.

The guy opens the door, the dog comes in, goes down the hall, jumps on the couch, gets comfortable and falls asleep again.

    The man lets him sleep.

After about an hour the dog wakes up, walks to the door and the guy lets him out.

The dog wags his tale and leaves.

    This goes on for days.

The guy grows really curious, so he pins a note on the dog’s collar: “Your dog has been taking a nap at my house every day.”

The next day the dog arrives with another note pinned to his collar: “He lives in a home with four children — he’s trying to catch up on his sleep. Can I come with him tomorrow?’

    Coca-Cola, 1971 – ‘Hilltop’ | “I’d like to buy the world a Coke”

Radio stations began running a Coke commercial called “I’d Like To Buy The World A Coke,” sung by The New Seekers (Jul 13, 1971) The song is later used a TV commercial showing young people from around the world singing on a hillside. The New Seekers later record a full version of the song as “I’d Like To Teach The World To Sing,” which becomes a huge hit.

NOTE: The video here is the famous ‘Hilltop’ Coca-Cola advert from 1971 followed by rare outtakes from the shoot to accompany The Hillside Singers version of the song.

What we have here is a hit song that started as a Coke commercial, sung by the group commissioned to sing the jingle. At first, it was a radio spot called “I’d Like To Buy The World A Coke,” a slogan written by William Backer who worked for Coke’s ad agency, McCann-Erickson.

Backer had a track record of success, having created the “Things Go Better with Coke” and “The Real Thing” campaigns for Coke. The idea for this one was Coke bringing people together in harmony – it was actually part of “The Real Thing” campaign, with the line, “That’s the real thing,” inserted into the lyric.

The commercial was sung by a British group called The New Seekers, whose biggest hit to that point was a cover of Melanie’s “What Have They Done to My Song, Ma” that reached #14 US.

The commercial started running on radio stations on February 12, 1971; it was so catchy listeners requested it like they would a song. Backer and his team knew they had a winner, so they commissioned a television commercial using the jingle, which became the iconic “Hilltop” commercial showing a group of people from various countries singing the song together outside of Rome.

The TV spot started airing in July and proved very popular, boosting sales of Coke and imbuing it with an aura of goodwill and harmony. The New Seekers recorded a full version of the song as “I’d Like To Teach The World To Sing (In Perfect Harmony)” with references to Coke removed so radio stations could play it as a song. It rose up the chart, reaching #7 on January 15, 1972.

William Backer came up with the line “I’d like to buy the world a Coke and keep it company” when his plane to London, where he was slated to create the commercial, got diverted to Ireland because of weather. He and his fellow travelers were not happy about this, but when they got together at the airport café for refreshments, Backer noticed their spirits lifted as they commisserated over their shared experience. He also noticed that many of them were drinking Coke, a beverage that crossed cultures.

At first, The New Seekers balked at recording the full version of the song, so Billy Davis put together a group of studio singers to record it and called them “The Hillside Singers.” This version was released as a single and picked up steam, convincing The New Seekers to get in on the action. Their version was released a short time later – both renditions climbed the chart simultaneously, with The Hillside Singers version peaking at #13 the same week The New Seekers made it to #7.

The song was a global success, going to #1 in Japan, Ireland and the UK and reaching the Top 10 in a number of territories. It was recorded in a number of different languages.

    Mississippi History: The Jackson Mall

The Jackson Mall opened on July 16, 1970 at the corner of Woodrow Wilson and Bailey Avenues with a ribbon-cutting ceremony presided over by WLBT weatherman Woodie Assaf as the Master of Ceremonies.

At approximately 900,000 square feet, the city’s first enclosed shopping center was the largest mall within 400 miles. Penny’s, Gayfers and Woolco were the mall’s anchor stores.

It thrived throughout the 1970s, but began to lose shoppers when Metrocenter opened in 1978. The opening of Northpark Mall in Ridgeland in 1984 dealt a heavier blow. Penny’s moved to Northpark in 1985 and Gayfer’s made the move in 1987.

As the ’80s came to a close, the Jackson Mall was nearly an empty shell and the surrounding area was crumbling around it.

In the 1990s, after several attempts to revitalize or repurpose the property, it was finally reborn as the Jackson Medical Mall, attracting doctor’s offices and other health-related tenants.

One of the original tenants, Piccadilly Cafeteria, remained open through the transition and is still serving customers today.

It’s More Blessed To Give Than Receive

    Acts 20:35

All we give for charitable uses, will not be accepted of God, nor turn to our advantage, unless we first give ourselves to the Lord.

By attributing good works to the grace of God, we not only give the glory to Him whose due it is, but also show men where their strength is.

    God loves a cheerful giver2 Corinthians 9:7

The greatest joy is found not in what we get but in what we give. God invites us to experience the joy of generous giving.

Paul urges the Corinthians to follow through on their own commitment to do the same thing of their own free will as an act of grace.

In doing so, they will also be following the example of Jesus’ sacrifice for them.

Paul urges the Corinthians to show the proof of their primary love for God by their love for others.

    Poetry

Stress is not something that we’re unfamiliar with.

Every one of us deals with different levels of it every day through work, school, relationships, etc.

Personally, when I feel overwhelmed, I need to find a way to calm my racing thoughts.

Sometimes it’s through taking a nap or binge-watching my favorite show, but another way that I find peace is through reading poetry.

    Illnesses

Hot tip, if you get into a committed relationship with someone that has chronic health issues please please please understand that that person may not be able to do anything for themselves for weeks to months at a time and a large burden is going to fall on you. Take the time to make sure you’re able to handle it before you commit.

I have family struggling. My heart breaks for what they have to go through:

I didnt ask for my body to fail.
My favorite quote from my doctor was, “it can’t really be that bad if you are still working and doing everything you do. “ I told him I didn’t know I had a choice. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Years in pain, tired and the many changes in me for no reason or apparent reason … Hiding everything from someone else, pretending to be doing better than you are; until it no longer works. No matter how strong you want to be.

Then the moment comes when they tell you what you have … You have mixed feelings: you finally know what you have, but how do you deal with it?

Lack of encouragement, wanting to lie down, taking medication frequently; having a whole pharmacy on top of the nightstand.

Then, the daily responses, “Why did you get so fat?” “I have this great diet, if you just go out and exercised.

That once beautiful hair of yours now awful and it falls out.

    What happened to you???

This is all true and that’s why I’m sharing it!

Silent and invisible diseases do exist …
When you have an invisible disease it is difficult to argue from your perspective with ignorant people. Life takes a lot of turns!!!

    Tired of being told:

    • Did you go to the doctor?
    • Have you tried this?
    • Have you tried that?
    • I don’t know what else we can do for you…

Yes! I tried and still try everything !!!
Doctors say this disease is forever. That I will not heal. However, I am not giving up, but I want to make others realize:

    • A nap will not cure me but it will help me …
    • I am not lazy, I take medication and it sometimes makes me sleepy.
    • I am not angry but sometimes cranky with pain.
    • I struggle daily with pain, mobility problems, fatigue, the criticism of my environment.

Most frustratingly, people look at me and say, “It can’t be that bad; you look good “
Despite the fact that my body is experiencing excruciating pain everywhere, of course I look good, I always try to look good, it is an “invisible” disease.

This disease affects me physically, mentally and emotionally. Because rare autoimmune diseases cannot be seen, but we feel them.

And they are there … Silent attack but extra painful.

I AM LOOKING AT THOSE WHO TAKE TIME TO READ THIS POST TO THE END.

    Forgiveness Matters

    Matthew 18:21-35

We’ve all made mistakes. We’ve all rebelled against God. And all wrongdoing is contrary to God’s ways. Some sins have bigger consequences—but every mistake causes us to fall short of God’s perfection.

Forgiveness doesn’t necessarily erase the hurt caused, but it does help us heal and move forward. We will never know someone else’s entire life story. We won’t always understand what experiences impact the decisions someone makes. That’s why empathy matters.

Showing empathy requires placing ourselves in the position of the person who’s offended us, and choosing to understand their burdens. This is what Jesus did when He came to earth, experienced what it was like to be human, and then took our sins on Himself when He died for us. Although we have all wronged Him, He gave up His life to forgive and rescue us.

Scripture isn’t asking us to do something that Jesus hasn’t already done for us. And, Scripture also says that to the extent we forgive, we will be forgiven (Matthew 6:14-15). So if we truly want to experience God’s forgiveness, then we need to extend forgiveness to others—even when we can’t forget what they’ve done.

So is there someone you’re withholding forgiveness from? Ask God to show you who you need to forgive. Then, allow God to shift your perspective and soften your heart toward that person. Let Him give you the strength and empathy you need to forgive.

    Controlling Your Tongue

The hearing ear is always found close to the speaking tongue.

Not speaking insulting or offensive words will make people love and respect you. Choose words to honor people around you.

How is your tongue? Do you need to make some changes in your life? Try and tame your tongue.

The choice to do good or bad still remains on our shoulders.

Same with our lips: we are given freedom to use it according to what we desire.

I hope we will desire to speak nothing but the truth and love toward others.

    Your Mind Is A Magnet

Our minds are the most powerful tool that we can harness for all levels of success in life.

Our thoughts shape who we are and who we will become, as well as influencing our physical well-being and our emotional state.

Our thoughts and beliefs will bring to us that which we place most of our focus upon.

The mind attracts into our life positive and negative situations and events, according to the thoughts that we think.

Like the magnet the mind does not only attract, but also fight off.

If we do not believe that we can get or accomplish something, then we will not.

    A Good Leader

A good leader motivates, doesn’t mislead, doesn’t exploit.

Being bossy and belittling people are not qualities of being a good leader.

Six Common Traits of Bad Leadership:

    • Poor Communication
    • Poor Influencing From the Top
    • Lack of Strategic Thinking
    • Poor Time Management/Delegation
    • Poor Conflict Resolution Skills
    • Lack of Leadership Development

If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a good leader.

The beauty of empowering others is that your own power is not diminished in the process.

Good leaders lead by example, fostering strong relationships with individuals and teams alike and ensuring that all reach their full potential while, importantly, achieving organizational goals.

If you want to become an effective and inspiring leader, focus on honing these three essential leadership qualities:

    • Effective Communication
    • A Positive Attitude
    • The Ability To Delegate

A good leader takes a vision, whether it is their own or the company’s, and uses it to motivate and inspire their employees to reach goals.

By sharing their vision with the team, a good leader creates a collective sense of purpose that provides direction and incentive to its team.
