Harassing and/or Fraudulent Calls

My rule of thumb, if I don’t have your number/name saved to my phone … I won’t answer other calls. All other calls are a nuisance.

There are apps you can download to block these calls, but it can be irritating.

Robocalls are often associated with political and telemarketing phone campaigns, but can also be used for public service or emergency announcements.

A robocall is a phone call that uses a computerized autodialer to deliver a pre-recorded message, as if from a robot.

Multiple businesses and telemarketing companies use auto-dialing software to deliver prerecorded messages (appointment reminders, booking details, etc.) to millions of users.

Some robocalls use personalized audio messages to simulate an actual personal phone call. The service is also associated to be prone to scams.

Scam calls refer to the fraudulent nature of calls that individuals or corporations make to trick people into giving away their money or sensitive information.

Scammers often downplay the situation as a routine call or even lying to the person they intended to victimize.

Spam calls are irrelevant, inappropriate calls sent to a large number of recipients who have not expressed interest in receiving these calls.

Spam calls are annoying, irritating, and infuriating. But they’re also dangerous. Really dangerous. Spam callers want to steal something from you.

Telemarketing is the direct marketing of goods or services to potential customers over the telephone or the internet.

Four common kinds of telemarketing include outbound calls, inbound calls, lead generation, and sales calls. Due to the intrusive nature of telemarketing, including spam calls, many customers are against it.

Fundraising calls are allowed even if your number is on the National Do Not Call Registry. If you want fundraisers to stop calling, ask them to put you on the charity’s do not call list.

When a charity’s fundraiser calls to ask you for a donation, they have to follow some rules: They can only call during specific times.

A call from a private number is typically displayed as either of the following: private caller, restricted, blocked, unknown, or no caller ID.

You might be getting calls from private numbers for a few different reasons. The call can be from someone with noble intentions, but most of the time, it’s not, as the caller may not want to be traced or identified.

The most common is that the caller is trying to hide their identity. Maybe they don’t want you to know who they are, or perhaps they’re calling from a number they borrowed from a friend and didn’t want you to know it’s not their own.

Another possibility is that you’ve been added to a scammer’s list. They may be calling a bunch of people at once and trying to scam them out of their money or personal information.

You ought to be extremely careful when dealing with private calls.

Another possibility is that someone you know is trying to reach you without revealing their number.

This can be tricky because there’s no way to tell if the call is really from the person you know or not. If you’re not sure, you can always try calling them back.

The Circadian Rhythm Diet

The Circadian Rhythm Diet entails eating certain types of foods at specific times of day, in order to nourish the physiological processes that occur daily within the 24 hour rhythm. Feeding these processes helps us to feel our best throughout the day and sleep solidly throughout the night.

Upon waking:

Drink 16-32 ounces of warm or room-temperature water as soon as you awaken. After all the hours of sleeping, you wake extremely dehydrated. Drinking a large quantity of water upon waking helps you to hydrate, which increases your energy and decreases your inflammation. This makes getting up and getting moving much easier. You may add lemon to this water, to help awaken the liver. Wait at least 20 minutes before having breakfast.

Breakfast:

Eat a protein-rich breakfast within 1 hour of waking, before drinking caffeine. Have vegetables in abundance throughout the day, and at every meal. Avoid sugars and simple/refined carbohydrates with breakfast.

This is not the best time of day to have calcium, so yogurt in the morning is not ideal. After finishing ½ your breakfast (or upon completion of your breakfast), feel free to drink your caffeine, although the morning is NOT the best time for the body to process caffeine.

Mid-Morning Snack:

Focus on vegetables and protein

Lunch:

Choose a protein-rich lunch, emphasizing vegetables, and no sugar. Complex carbohydrates and whole grains such as brown rice, quinoa, millet, and amaranth may be included, but limited.

Mid-Afternoon Snack:

This is the best time of day to eat fruit or sweets. Fruits are best eaten alone, not combined with other foods. This is also the best time of day for the body to process caffeine. Tea time and dessert before dinner hold true.

Dinner:

This meal is best composed of light protein, abundant vegetables, and heavy complex carbohydrates such as yams, sweet potatoes, and whole grains. The carbohydrates at night help with sleep, as well as metabolism and blood sugar control. Alcohol (if consumed) is best processed with dinner.

“Dessert:”

Dessert is best processed before dinner. During this after dinner snack time, our bodies are best able to assimilate calcium and magnesium. If you are able to process dairy- cow, goat or sheep milk/cheese, this is the best time of day to eat it.

If dairy isn’t your best friend, other forms of Calcium include greens and fish- of course, these can be consumed with dinner. This is also the best time to take Calcium and Magnesium supplements. Magnesium relaxes smooth muscles, while Calcium helps with sleep and aides in dreaming.

Just a note on Drinking Fluids:

It is important to drink the bulk of our fluids away from food. Drinking too many fluids while eating dilutes the digestive juices, and this prevents us from being able to fully absorb nutrients from our food.

Optimally, we want to do most of our drinking of water and other fluids away from eating, and away from bedtime. However, it is helpful to have a glass of water on your night stand, so you can drink water if you awaken in the night.

Is Circadian Rhythm Diet Worth Trying? 🤔

A Psalm Of Life by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Tell me not, in mournful numbers, Life is but an empty dream! For the soul is dead that slumbers, And things are not what they seem.

Life is real! Life is earnest! And the grave is not its goal; Dust thou art, to dust returnest, Was not spoken of the soul.

Not enjoyment, and not sorrow, Is our destined end or way; But to act, that each to-morrow. Find us farther than to-day.

Art is long, and Time is fleeting, And our hearts, though stout and brave, Still, like muffled drums, are beating Funeral marches to the grave.

In the world’s broad field of battle, In the bivouac of Life, Be not like dumb, driven cattle! Be a hero in the strife!

Trust no Future, howe’er pleasant! Let the dead Past bury its dead! Act,— act in the living Present! Heart within, and God o’erhead!

Lives of great men all remind us. We can make our lives sublime, And, departing, leave behind us Footprints on the sands of time;

Footprints, that perhaps another, Sailing o’er life’s solemn main, A forlorn and shipwrecked brother, Seeing, shall take heart again.

Let us, then, be up and doing, With a heart for any fate; Still achieving, still pursuing, Learn to labor and to wait.

Road Trips Are Fun

A farmer had five female pigs. Times were hard, so he decided to take them to the county fair and sell them.

At the fair, he met another Farmer who owned five male pigs. After talking a bit, they decided to mate the pigs and split everything 50/50.

The farmers lived sixty miles apart. So they agreed to drive thirty miles each, find a field in which to let the pigs mate.

The first morning, the farmer with the female pigs got up at 5 A.M., loaded the pigs into the family station wagon, (which was the only vehicle he had) and drove the thirty miles. While the pigs were mating, he asked the other farmer,

“How will I know if they are pregnant?”

The other farmer replied, “If they’re lying in the grass tomorrow morning, they’re pregnant. If they’re in the mud, they’re not.”

The next morning the pigs were rolling in the mud. So he hosed them off, loaded them into the family station wagon again and proceeded to try again. This continued each morning for more than a week. Both farmers were worn out.

The next morning he was too tired to get out of bed. He called to his wife,

“Honey, please look outside and tell me whether the pigs are in the mud or in the grass.”

“Neither,” yelled his wife. “They’re in the station wagon and one of them is honking the horn.” 😁😁😁

What Are Good Calories? Good vs Bad Calories: Why You Should Avoid Sugar…

Good calories are those that provide lean-protein, healthy-fats and complex carbs from fresh whole foods and quality meal replacements and supplements.

Bad calories are those that don’t provide your body with good nutrition. These come from things like processed foods, sugar, refined flours, unhealthy fats, and artificial ingredients.

Many studies have found that in general women need 1500-2000 calories to maintain their current weight and for men the range goes to 2000-2500 calories.

This number is also known as the Basic Metabolic Rate (BMR). In essence, this figure gives you the number of calories your body needs on a daily basis in order to function properly.

If you are trying to lose weight, reduce your estimated calorie intake by 500 per a day.

When Great Trees Fall by Maya Angelou

When great trees fall,
rocks on distant hills shudder,
lions hunker down
in tall grasses,
and even elephants
lumber after safety.

When great trees fall
in forests,
small things recoil into silence,
their senses
eroded beyond fear.

When great souls die,
the air around us becomes
light, rare, sterile.
We breathe, briefly.
Our eyes, briefly,
see with
a hurtful clarity.

Our memory, suddenly sharpened,
examines,
gnaws on kind words
unsaid,
promised walks
never taken.

Great souls die and
our reality, bound to
them, takes leave of us.
Our souls,
dependent upon their
nurture,
now shrink, wizened.

Our minds, formed
and informed by their
radiance,
fall away.
We are not so much maddened
as reduced to the unutterable ignorance
of dark, cold
caves.

And when great souls die,
after a period peace blooms,
slowly and always
irregularly. Spaces fill
with a kind of
soothing electric vibration.
Our senses, restored, never
to be the same, whisper to us.
They existed. They existed.
We can be. Be and be
better. For they existed.

This Is A Daily Reminder

This is a daily reminder
To relax,
To not get angry over small things,
To stay calm.

This is a daily reminder
To be yourself,
To not care what people think,
To know you can be anything.

This is a daily reminder
To love yourself,
To not hurt yourself,
To not work yourself up.

This is a daily reminder
That you are beautiful,
That you are amazing,
That you will succeed.

This is a daily reminder
To always have hope,
To have faith,
To know everything will be okay.

This is a daily reminder
That you have made it so far already,
That you haven’t given up,
That whatever you’re doing is right,
And that you are going to be amazing.

Don’t give up.
Keep holding on and believing. ~Anonymous

Women’s History Month by MSDH

During Women’s History Month, we celebrate the wonderful public health leadership of our MARYs!

Mary D. Osborne was named the state’s first Director of Public Health Nursing in 1921.

At that time, Mississippi had the highest maternal death rate and the highest infant mortality rate of the entire United States.

Few hospitals existed, and most deliveries, even by physicians, occurred in the home.

Osborne developed and produced the authoritative teaching guide for all midwives practicing in the state, and built a network of public health nurses and training programs.

By 1950, the infant death rate in Mississippi had dropped by more than 90 percent.

Osborne was inducted into the American Nurses Association Hall of Fame in 1996.

Mary Currier, MD, MPH, served as Mississippi’s State Health Officer (SHO) from 2010 to 2018, after a long career in public health.

Before being named SHO, she had been MSDH’s State Epidemiologist, led the Office of Communicable Diseases, and worked hands-on in county health department clinics caring for pregnant women and infants.

Under Dr. Currier’s leadership, MSDH dramatically lowered the state’s tuberculosis rate, opened the state-of-the-art Dr. F.E. “Ed” Thompson State Public Health Laboratory, and was awarded national accreditation from the Public Health Accreditation Board.

This month – and every month – we’re grateful for our MARYs and their roles in public health history in Mississippi!

The True Meaning Of Life by Patricia Fleming

The years have passed by
In the blink of an eye,
Moments of sadness
And joy have flown by.

People I loved
Have come and have gone,
But the world never stopped,
And we all carried on.

Life wasn’t easy,
And the struggles were there,
Filled with times that it mattered,
Times I just didn’t care.

I stood on my own,
And I still found my way,
Through some nights filled with tears,
And the dawn of new days.

And now with old age,
It’s become very clear;
Things I once found important
Were not why I was here.

And how many things
That I managed to buy
Were never what made me
Feel better inside.

And the worries and fears
That plagued me each day,
In the end of it all,
Would just fade away.

But how much I reached out
To others when needed,
Would be the true measure
Of how I succeeded.

And how much I shared
Of my soul and my heart
Would ultimately be
What set me apart.

And what’s really important,
Is my opinion of me,
And whether or not
I’m the best I can be.

And how much more kindness
And love I can show
Before the Lord tells me
It’s my time to go.

Vitamin Supplements & Healing/Toxic Foods

Ignoring your nutritional needs over time, combined with our typically less-than-healthy modern lifestyles, ultimately can have a significant impact on the way you feel and hold you back from living life to the fullest and meeting your wellness goals.

Risks of vitamin supplements

For example, getting too much vitamin A can cause headaches and liver damage, reduce bone strength, and cause birth defects.

Excess iron causes nausea and vomiting and may damage the liver and other organs.

Be cautious about taking dietary supplements if you are pregnant or nursing.

The health benefits of vitamins include their ability to prevent and treat various diseases including heart problems, high cholesterol levels, and eye and skin disorders. Most vitamins facilitate many of the body’s mechanisms and perform functions which cannot be performed by any other nutrients.

Vitamins can be consumed in a variety of ways.

Most common vitamins are acquired through the foods we eat but depending on your cultural or cuisine traditions, you may possibly have lower natural vitamin intake.

Therefore, the nutrition industry has made supplements available that can boost the vitamin content in your body.

A multivitamin is often considered the best option for improving the overall balance of your body, particularly if you have a job or a lifestyle that frequently causes you to miss meals, eat at strange times, or eat the same food very often.

A Seed of Encouragement

We have to always be mindful to view the challenging times we go through from the right perspective.

When we are in a season of pain, we tend to focus on how bad it is instead of what God is developing in us and what God is doing on our behalf despite the pain and the hurt we may be experiencing.

As we start looking at things from God’s perspective, we are reminded that 1) the pain won’t last always… 2) the pain has a purpose and it will be used to help us in one way or another… and 3) there is a season of pleasure and joy that WILL COME after this!!!

Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning. -Psalm 30:5

Matthew 5:3-10

The Beatitudes are sayings attributed to Jesus, and in particular eight blessings recounted by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount in the Gospel of Matthew.

And four in the Sermon on the Plain in the Gospel of Luke, followed by four woes which mirror the blessings. Each is a proverb-like proclamation, without narrative.

1. The poor in spirit are those who feel a deep sense of spiritual destitution and comprehend their nothingness before God. The kingdom of heaven is theirs, because they seek it, and therefore find and abide in it. Matthew 5:3

2. The blessing is not upon all that mourn but upon those who mourn in reference to sin. They shall be comforted by the discovery and appropriation of God’s pardon. But all mourning is traced directly or indirectly to sin. Matthew 5:4

3. The humble would receive far greater than the arrogant and prideful. Not only do the meek enjoy more of life on earth because of their ability to be content, but they will possess and enjoy the earth after Jesus’ return and triumphal entry. Matthew 5:5

4. Because of Christ, we can cling to the promise of everlasting righteousness in heaven. While we are called to live like Christ, we also have forgiveness of sin. Matthew 5:6

5. Mercy is an active virtue that Christians can show to each other because we have been given mercy ourselves. Since God has forgiven our offenses, we should forgive others and show mercy. Matthew 5:7

6. The pure in heart are those who are free from evil desires and purposes. They can see and experience God’s presence because they are free from self-righteousness and arrogance. Matthew 5:8

7. All who make peace between men, whether as individuals or as communities. It includes even those who worthily endeavor to make peace, though they fail of success. They shall be called God’s children because he is the God of peace who sent His own Son as the Prince of Peace. Matthew 5:9

8. Those who suffer because of their loyalty to the kingdom of heaven are blessed by being bound more closely to that kingdom for which they suffer. Matthew 5:10

So Proud Of Me

I’m so, so, so, so, so proud of ME!

I’m really into treating myself because I’m doing great and I deserve it.

I’m quick to cut out toxic people, because I understand the importance of being in a positive space.

I don’t beat myself up for mistakes, because I’ve mastered the act of keeping things moving and focusing on my good vibrations and energy.

I have to believe in myself because at the end of each day, It’s About ME – Ultimately, my life is about me.

This is not a selfish thought. Or an arrogant one.

Rather, it means that in this world, I am only competing against myself.

I set the standards and I determine the results.

Some days I win, some days I lose. Some days I’m full of energy, some days I’m tired. No days do I give up! 😊 💜 😉

R&R

God Knows Best

Do you ever feel like God isn’t answering your prayers?

It might feel like God is ignoring you when He doesn’t answer your prayers the way you’re hoping.

But Scripture offers us insights as to why God might appear to be silent.

One verse that I’ve found most helpful in my own life – when it comes to unanswered prayer – is Psalm 84:11, in which the Psalmist said “No good thing will [God] withhold from those who walk uprightly.”

I find three principles (and loads of encouragement) in this verse for why God might not be answering my prayer or yours.

God’s idea of a “good thing” might be different than ours.

God is waiting for us to be obedient.

It isn’t the right time.

We aren’t asking in faith.

God has something better for us than what we are asking for

God has promised that, when we ask for things that are in accordance with His will for our lives, He will give us what we ask for ( 1 John 5:14–15 ).

Footprints In The Sand

One night I dreamed a dream.
I was walking along the beach with my Lord.
Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.

For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand, one belonging to me and one to my Lord.

When the last scene of my life shot before me I looked back at the footprints in the sand.

There was only one set of footprints.
I realized that this was at the lowest and saddest times of my life.

This always bothered me and I questioned the Lord about my dilemma.

“Lord, You told me when I decided to follow You, You would walk and talk with me all the way.

But I’m aware that during the most troublesome times of my life there is only one set of footprints.

I just don’t understand why, when I need You most, You leave me.”

He whispered, “My precious child, I love you and will never leave you, never, ever, during your trials and testings.

When you saw only one set of footprints, It was then that I carried you.”
