Food Labeling: Beware

Food labeling is confusing. But do not be deceived!

When orange juice says it’s non-GMO, please recognize that all oranges are non-GMO. The only potential GMO products in the USA are papaya, corn, alfalfa, soybeans, cotton, potatoes, squash, canola, sugar beets, and apples.

When organic milk is labeled antibiotic free, remember that all dairy products, including milk, are always antibiotic free. Same applies to meat.

Those bananas advertised as cholesterol free? That’s because all bananas are cholesterol free.

When a jar of peanuts says it is made in a plant that processes peanuts just use your common sense and roll your eyes.

When a bag of apples says it is gluten free, remember that gluten comes from wheat.

When you see a Facebook post that talks about hormones in beef, please understand that an 8oz serving of beef has 2-3 nanograms of estrogen, an 8 oz serving of white bread has 136,080 nanograms of estrogen, and 8 ounces of soy flour has 342,468,000 nanograms of estrogen. All living things produce estrogen, it’s just science.

When that carton of eggs says that they came from vegetarian fed chickens, don’t forget that chickens are naturally omnivores.

So yes, eat healthy, but don’t be swayed by deceptive advertising. Be informed.

No farms, no food. Know your farmers, know your food.

A Promotion Celebration

After years of hard and dedicated service to his Company, Ajay was being appointed at an elegant reception as the new Director.

It was a small function where his wife Anita, a Home Executive and some of the wives of the other persons in top management were also present.

In an adjacent room, Ann, the wife of the CEO of the Company, asked Ajay’s wife a very odd and unusual question; “Does your husband make you happy?”

The husband, Ajay, who at that moment was not at her side, but was
sufficiently near to hear the question, paid attention to the conversation, sitting up slightly, feeling secure, even filling his chest lightly in pride and hope, that she would definitely not publicly lower or degrade her husband,
would answer affirmatively, since she had always been there for him during their marriage and generally in life.

Nevertheless, to both his and the others’ surprise, she replied simply; “No, no, he doesn’t make me happy…”

The room became uncomfortably silent, as if everyone was listening to the spouse’s response.

There was a sudden coldness in the air.

The husband was petrified.

A frown appeared on his face.

He couldn’t believe what his wife was saying, especially at such an important occasion for him.

To the amazement of her husband and of everyone!

Anita sat up firmly and explained in a modest but stern tone to the other wives who were present; “No, he doesn’t make me happy… I AM HAPPY by my own choice.”

The fact that I am happy or not doesn’t depend on him, but on me.

Both of us have the intellect and discretion to reason, interpret and decide.

And I am the person upon whom my happiness depends.

I make the choice to be happy in each situation and in each moment of my life with Ajay.

If my happiness were to depend on other people, on other things, or
circumstances; I would be in serious trouble!

Over my life I have learned a couple of things: I decide to be happy and the rest is a matter of ‘experiences or circumstances’ like helping,
understanding, accepting, listening, consoling and with my spouse, I have lived and practiced this many times.

Honestly, true happiness lies in being content.

Relieved and reassured, a smile was clearly noticed on Ajay’s face.

Happiness will always be found in contentment, forgiveness and in loving ourselves and others. To truly love is difficult, it is to forgive unconditionally, to live, to take the “experiences or circumstances” as they are, facing them together and being happy with conviction.

a-ha – Take On Me

A-ha is a Norwegian synth-pop band formed in Oslo in 1982. Founded by Paul Waaktaar-Savoy, Magne Furuholmen, and Morten Harket, the band rose to fame during the mid-1980s.

A-ha achieved their biggest success with their debut album Hunting High and Low in 1985.

The album peaked at number one in their native Norway, number two in the UK, and number 15 on the US Billboard album chart; yielded two international number-one singles: “Take On Me” and “The Sun Always Shines on T.V.“; and earned the band a Grammy Award nomination for Best New Artist.

In the UK, Hunting High and Low continued its chart success into the following year, becoming one of the best-selling albums of 1986.

The band released studio albums in 1986, 1988, and 1990, with single hits including “Hunting High and Low“, “The Living Daylights“, “Stay on These Roads“, and “Crying in the Rain“.

In 1994, after their fifth studio album, Memorial Beach (1993), failed to achieve the commercial success of their previous albums, the band went on hiatus.

Your Path And Timeline

Everyone has a unique path and different timeline.

It is important to focus on your own progress, rather than compare yourself to others.

Life is said to be a progression of time until the end of time. Time itself is an ever-depleting resource that we never seem to have a grip of, only that which it is invested in.

The big concern has never been about where we are or have been, but where we are heading.

There is no guarantee that obstacles will not greet him and threaten the abortion of your dreams. They will!

And sometimes, they only show to test your resolve. That is a given. When challenges show up, keep your head up high.

Remain loyal to your dreams and don’t give up the light that you have. Everyone’s dreams, passion, and talents are unique to each of us.

So don’t compare your path and timeline to others. Just concentrate on you and your dreams then you will find your reward.

Mississippi History – Jitney Jungle

Did you ever shop at Jitney Jungle #14 in the Belhaven neighborhood of Jackson? If not, what location of Jitney did you shop?

Clarion-Ledger (1988): Jitney’s store No. 14 has never been a typical grocery store. Since its 1929 opening at Fortification and Jefferson Streets, it has been a friendly meeting place, a lifeline for its loyal customers.

Regulars say they keep in touch with their neighbors there, renew old acquaintances and even get an emotional lift from a Jitney trip. The dress code is: come as you are. For some, that means pajamas. It’s homey. Shoppers plan to keep it that way.

“I’ve always loved the Jitney,” said writer Eudora Welty. Welty, who grew up to become the store’s most famous customer, said its magic began on Day 1—as Jackson’s first self-service grocery store.

“I’ve been shopping there since it opened,” Welty, 79, said. “Then it was like a maze. That was part of the charm—that was the jungle part, turning corners all the time.

Then they had bottled milk with cream on top in the refrigerator box—not homogenized. Real milk. You bought the one with the highest cream on top.”

Nuclear Weapons, Climate Change And COVID-19, As Doomsday Clock To Be Updated

For the past 75 years, the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, a nonprofit media organization comprised of world leaders and Nobel laureates, has announced how close it believes the world is to collapse due to nuclear war, climate change and, most recently, the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It is a metaphor, a reminder of the perils we must address if we are to survive on the planet,” the Bulletin, which created the clock, said on its website, also calling it “a design that warns the public about how close we are to destroying our world with dangerous technologies of our own making.”

Four Smart Students

One night four college students were out partying late night and didn’t study for the test which was scheduled for the next day. In the morning, they thought of a plan.

They made themselves look dirty with grease and dirt.

Then they went to the Dean and said they had gone out to a wedding last night and on their way back the tire of their car burst and they had to push the car all the way back. So they were in no condition to take the test.

The Dean thought for a minute and said they can have the re-test after 3 days. They thanked him and said they will be ready by that time.

On the third day, they appeared before the Dean. The Dean said that as this was a Special Condition Test, all four were required to sit in separate classrooms for the test. They all agreed as they had prepared well in the last 3 days.

The Test consisted of only 2 questions with the total of 100 Points:

1) Your Name? __________ (1 Points)

2) Which tire burst? __________ (99 Points)
Options – (a) Front Left (b) Front Right (c) Back Left (d) Back Right

Take responsibility for your actions or you will repeat your lessons until you learn from them.

Believe In Yourself

Believing in yourself is a willingness to accept “failure” so you can learn the critical skill of adaptation.

Believing in yourself is not compromising on your most important values, and walking the walk, rather than just talking the talk.

Believing in yourself is living the life you want and are passionate about.

So when others give up on you, just remember to not give up on yourself and know that God will ALWAYS be there for you.

Josh Turner – Your Man

Joshua Otis Turner is an American country and gospel singer and songwriter. In 2003, he signed to MCA Nashville Records. That same year, his debut album’s title track, “Long Black Train”, was his breakthrough single release. His second album, Your Man accounted for his first two number-one hits: “Your Man” and “Would You Go with Me”, while 2007’s Everything Is Fine included a No. 2 in “Firecracker”.

Mistreating Others

There is a heavy weight in criticizing, hurting, or judging others; and it is not something that we should take lightly. There are consequences to that type of behavior.

We shouldn’t judge other people because we will be judged according to the same standard that we use to criticize others.

There is an effect for everything we do or say (positive or negative – good or bad), and that the effort we put into something or someone will be rewarded appropriately in this life or the next.

If someone treats other people badly he or she will eventually be treated badly by someone else..

People who have faults should not criticize other people for having the same faults.

Fragility and instability of the stone-thrower’s position could come to light. Before they know it, their own issues are likely going to be exposed.

This portion of a popular song says it best :

You know there are too many people trying to take care of others peoples business and they can’t even take care of their own.

What you need to do is take six months to mind your own business.

And six months to leave other folks business alone. All I’m trying to say is:

Sweep around your own front door before you try to sweep around mine.

A Nuisance

These ANNOYING Asian Beetles are back.

NO, they are not traditional ladybugs. Well technically, all ladybugs are a type of beetle.

NO, they do not bring good luck.

YES, they do BITE – they like the salt in our skin.

YES, SOME ppl are allergic to their bites.

YES, they leave weird blood trails on walls and windows in order to attract their friends.

The best way to rid yourself of these pests is by using lemon oil based products.

They hate LEMON OIL.

If they are swarming your home (cuz they like to do that because they are THE WORST) use lemon oil based products (Lysol, Pine-sol, lemon oil extract) to clean window, doors, and walls.

That should help keep them away.

Started using this a month ago – I spray around the window sills and the doors leading to the outside – really works!

ATTORNEY’S ADVICE—–NO CHARGE

When you are writing checks to pay on your credit card accounts, DO NOT put the complete account number on the “For” line. Instead, just put the last four numbers.

The credit card company knows the rest of the number, and anyone who might be handling your check as it passes through all the check-processing channels will not have access to it.

Put your work phone number on your checks instead of your home phone. If you have a PO Box, use that instead of your home address. If you do not have a PO Box, use your work address.

Never have your Social Security Number printed on your checks (DUH!). You can add it if it is necessary. However, if you have it printed, anyone can get it. (This may not be possible for many people).

Place the contents of your wallet on a photocopy machine. Do both sides of each license, credit card, etc. You will know what you had in your wallet and all of the account numbers and phone numbers to call and cancel.

Keep the photocopy in a safe place. Also, carry a photocopy of your passport when traveling either here or abroad. We have all heard horror stories about fraud that is committed on us in stealing a name, address, Social Security number, and credit cards.

When you check out of a hotel that uses cards for keys (and they all seem to do that now), do not turn the “keys” in. Take them with you and destroy them.

Those little cards have on them all of the information you gave the hotel, including address and credit card numbers and expiration dates.

Someone with a card reader, or employee of the hotel, can access all that information with no problem whatsoever.

Unfortunately, as an attorney, I have first hand knowledge because my wallet was stolen last month.

Within a week, the thieves ordered an expensive monthly cell phone package, applied for a VISA credit card, had a credit line approved to buy a Gateway computer and received a PIN number from DMV to change my driving record information online.

Here is some critical information to limit the damage in case this happens to you or someone you know:

We have been told we should cancel our credit cards immediately. The key is having the toll free numbers and your card numbers handy so you know whom to call.

Keep those where you can find them. File a police report immediately in the jurisdiction where your credit cards, etc., were stolen.

This proves to credit providers you were diligent, and this is a first step toward an investigation (if there ever is one). However, here is what is perhaps most important of all (I never even thought to do this).

Call the three national credit reporting organizations immediately to place a fraud alert on your name and Social Security number.

I had never heard of doing that until advised by a bank that called to tell me an application for credit was made over the Internet in my name.

The alert means any company that checks your credit knows your information was stolen, and they have to contact you by phone to authorize new credit.

By the time I was advised to do this, almost two weeks after the theft, all the damage had been done.

There are records of all the credit checks initiated by the thieves purchases, none of which I knew about before placing the alert.

Since then, no additional damage has been done, and the thieves threw my wallet away this weekend (someone turned it in).

It seems to have stopped them dead in their tracks. Now, here are the numbers you always need to contact about your wallet and contents being stolen:

1.) Equifax: 1-800-525-6285

2.) Experian (formerly TRW): 1-888-397-3742

3.) TransUnion: 1-800-680-7289

4.) Social Security Administration (fraud line): 1-800-269-0271

If you are willing to pass this information along, it could really help someone who you care about.

My Cup Runneth Over

You are holding a cup of coffee when someone comes along and bumps into you or shaking your arm, making you spill your coffee everywhere.

Why did you spill the coffee? “Well because someone bumped into me, of course!” Wrong answer. You spilled the coffee because there was coffee in your cup.

Had there been tea in the cup, you would’ve spilled tea.

Whatever is inside the cup, will spill out.

Therefore, when life comes along and shakes you (which WILL happen), whatever is inside you will come out.

It’s easy to fake it, until you get rattled.

So we have to ask ourselves… “what’s in my cup?” When life gets tough, what spills over?

Joy, gratefulness, peace, and humility?

Or, anger, bitterness, harsh words, and reactions?

Today lets work towards filling our cups with gratitude, forgiveness, joy, words of affirmation; and kindness, gentleness, and love for others. “

“CHOOSE joy, SPEAK life, and KEEP MARCHING!” 💜

The Wise Man

People have been coming to the wise man, complaining about the same problems every time. One day he told them a joke and everyone roared in laughter.

After a couple of minutes, he told them the same joke and only a few of them smiled.

When he told the same joke for the third time no one laughed anymore.

The wise man smiled and said:

“You can’t laugh at the same joke over and over. So why are you always crying about the same problem?”

Worrying won’t solve your problems, it’ll just waste your time and energy.

To Thine Own Self Be True

If you are true to yourself and you are ethical in your approach in life, good things are going to take place in your life.

Being true to yourself is a life-long practice that requires commitment and re-commitment, moment to moment, as you grow and evolve.

What is true for you always exists at the core of who you are, if you give yourself the space and time to listen.

When you are being true to yourself, you are completely honest with what you feel, deeply value, and desire.

Reflection For Husbands

Your wife is already tired…

Have you ever wondered how your wife feels?

Believe it or not, your wife is the one who carries the most things on her shoulders and still has to go on every single day.

If your wife tells you that she can’t do it anymore — don’t judge her, or think that she wants to leave you, she just feels pain in her heart that she can’t get out because she has to deal with other people’s problems and solve them and usually forgets about her.

Mom gets tired too, that’s why you have to share household chores washing dishes, sweeping or mopping won’t make you less of a man… she also cries, she also feels bad… and no one asks her how she feels.

First she is a mother… a psychologist… a doctor… a cook… a housewife… a wife… a stylist… and a thousand other things, but the most important thing is that it is YOUR SUPPORT AS A PARTNER…

If you have problems, she will support you and she will tell you that everything will be fine, if there is no money, she will find a way but she will never leave you alone even when you see her distracted, distant, thoughtful, she will always say that she has nothing, but she HAS EVERYTHING.

Your Mindset Around Money Needs To Change

It could be so frustrating feeling trapped and can’t see a way out. Longing to be debt free and moving forward to becoming financially responsible.

To be financially responsible, you need to live within your means. And to live within your means, you must spend less than you make.

In a general sense, being financially responsible means paying your bills on time, not taking on more debt than you can afford, and being accountable for your own life. It also means being prepared for the unexpected, so a financial liability won’t destroy you. You manage your money in a productive way that will help ensure a secure future.

If you’re really looking to be financially responsible, just being able to make your minimum monthly credit card payment doesn’t cut it. In fact, the fact that you aren’t able to pay your balance in full shows that you already spend more than you earn. Responsible use of credit means paying the balance on your account in full each month.

Credit cards should be used for convenience, not to make ends meet. Credit cards are handy because they eliminate the need to carry cash. Plus, you can generate reward points.

Credit cards can be very helpful in an emergency. That said, if an emergency does force you to carry a balance on your card, living in a financially responsible manner means curbing your spending until that balance is paid off.

The same logic applies to all recurring payments that involve paying interest. Think about it: Paying interest on anything means that you are spending more on that item than the purchase price. Does that sound like the most responsible choice or just the most convenient?

For many people, cutting down on interest and borrowing is easier said than done, but in practice, it really comes down to knowing the difference between necessities and luxuries.

Saving is an activity that must be taken seriously. A great way to do this is when you get your paycheck – and before you pay your bills – pay yourself first. A good goal to save is 10%.

Financial responsibility also means being prepared for the unexpected. Most experts agree that you need to be able to support yourself financially for at least six months without an income.

That feeling of being debt free… is priceless.

When your mindset around money changes, your behavior around savings and spending also shifts.

Married Folks

Last night, my husband accidentally knocked a wine glass over and it smashed to pieces on the floor. I wasn’t there to see him do it but I heard the crash. He proceeded to clean up and checked for pieces and after being satisfied that he’d got every piece he went to bed for the night.

Now, I tend to get up and do random things at night around the house so I got up and went to the laundry room. As I went through the kitchen, I saw a couple of pretty nice size pieces of glass.

Honestly, my first response was irritation… I mean it seemed so careless, and what if one of the boys would have gotten up and gone to the kitchen and stepped on a shard?

I was becoming increasingly upset when I heard in my spirit a voice of correction saying, ” Aren’t you the helpmeet?”

With this rhetorical question I understood that I should be glad that I was up to pick up what he missed. I re-swept the floor and began moving things around in case pieces had managed to ricochet off somewhere else. I found quite a few.

This is marriage. Our spouses may not always get it right even with their very best efforts, but a true helpmeet sees where there is lack and makes up the difference.

It’s not always time to complain, sometimes it’s time complete.

Happiness Is A Choice

Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances.

You cannot control what happens to you in life, but you can always control what you will feel and do about what happens to you.

We can always choose a positive perspective over a negative one under any given circumstance.

Imagine living with happiness, motivation, and inspiration.

It is time for you to express radiant joy, peace, and contentment that is so unmistakable and so attractive that others are naturally drawn to you because they want what you have.

But in today’s culture, the majority of people are perceived as angry, judgmental people who don’t seem to derive any joy from life whatsoever.

Happiness has been linked to longer lifespans, increased immunity and lowered susceptibility to illnesses like heart disease and depression, so the value of achieving it clearly goes far beyond your emotional health.

And, just like so many other goals with worthy payoffs, long-term happiness takes time and a conscious effort to develop.

While you may find momentary bliss in a shopping spree or a pay raise; happiness comes from our circumstances.

True happiness comes gradually, despite setbacks and detours, through the sum of your life choices.

Though there’s no exact formula for making decisions that lead to long-term happiness, happy people tend to share some common principles.

Engage in activities you love; while succeeding in a career that brings you great contentment is a reality for some, finding a job that provides more happiness than headache isn’t easy.

Foster friendship; having meaningful connections with others increases your sense of support and can improve your coping skills, leading to lower stress levels, particularly during difficult times.

Be flexible; even the happiest among us face disappointment and challenge in life, and adjusting to a different outcome than one you were expecting isn’t always easy.

Practice forgiveness; it’s difficult to be happy if you’re holding on to anger or remorse for things that were said or done—is the first step in freeing yourself of this burden and experiencing happiness in the present.

Expressing gratitude; particularly for those who tend to focus on the negative, counting your blessings on a regular basis can lead to lasting feelings of happiness.

When you find yourself deep in a negative thought pattern, take a step back.

Ask yourself if your situation is truly as bad as you think it is.

Then try to approach it from a different, more positive perspective.

Even a subtle shift, from “things couldn’t possibly get worse,” to “things aren’t great right now, but at least I have my friends and family” is a step in the right direction.

When You Thought I Wasn’t Looking

When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw you hang my first painting on the refrigerator, and I immediately wanted to paint another one.

When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw you feed a stray cat, and I learned that it was good to be kind to animals.

When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw you make my favorite cake for me, and I learned that the little things can be the special things in life.

When you thought I wasn’t looking I heard you say a prayer, and I knew that there is a God I could always talk to, and I learned to trust in Him.

When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw you make a meal and take it to a friend who was sick, and I learned that we all have to help take care of each other.

When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw you take care of our house and everyone in it, and I learned we have to take care of what we are given.

When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw how you handled your responsibilities, even when you didn’t feel good, and I learned that I would have to be responsible when I grow up.

When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw tears come from your eyes, and I learned that sometimes things hurt, but it’s all right to cry.

When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw that you care, and I wanted to be everything that I could be…

When you thought I wasn’t looking I learned most of life’s lessons that I need to know to be a good and productive person when I grow up.

When you thought I wasn’t looking I looked at you and wanted to say,’ Thanks for all the things I saw when you thought I wasn’t looking.’ ~Anonymous

Healthy Living

Most people don’t make the connection between the food they eat and the quality of their health.

Eating Healthy Saves You More in the Long Run.

There is a famous quote by Hippocrates that states, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.”

We only know what we have been taught up to this point, and that includes your doctor, and goes for every profession.

Moving forward, unless we stay open and curious to new ideas and research, we stagnate. Let’s start making healthier choices and eating healthier.

Talents

Good Morning! #ThatPartTuesday💯

God doesn’t give us anything just for our own benefit.

After all, we’re blessed to be a blessing (Genesis 12:2)!

Just as with spiritual gifts, God wants us to use our talents and skills for the benefit of others.

A talent is something that you are instinctually born with that gives you unique skills and abilities.

Talent is set apart from knowledge in that it is not a learned behavior, although it can be strengthened and practiced.

The Bible tells us that we are all born with distinct talents and gifts that set us apart from each other.

When you discover the talents that God has given you and you use them to glorify Him, you will experience a full life!

From my Facebook post 12/29/2020

Observation

It is a sad truth that there are going to be people in your life who are just going to use you, whom you will never be able to please, and it won’t matter how much you love them.

I think that even though these moments really suck, they teach us something important, like the value of people who will actually be there for you and that sometimes the only person you can really depend on is yourself.

The Elephant And The Rope

A gentleman was walking through an elephant camp, and he spotted that the elephants weren’t being kept in cages or held by the use of chains.

All that was holding them back from escaping the camp, was a small piece of rope tied to one of their legs.

As the man gazed upon the elephants, he was completely confused as to why the elephants didn’t just use their strength to break the rope and escape the camp.

They could easily have done so, but instead, they didn’t try to at all.

Curious and wanting to know the answer, he asked a trainer nearby why the elephants were just standing there and never tried to escape.

The trainer replied;

“When they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it’s enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.”

This applies to human behavior as well.

The beliefs we hold in our lives is extremely important because they have the power to create our reality due to the operation of the Law of Attraction.

If we don’t change our limiting beliefs, they become a self-fulfilling prophecy, and we become unable to break free from chains of our self-imposed limitations.

‎Nothing binds you except your thoughts; nothing limits you except your fear; and nothing controls you except your beliefs.

As the story of the elephant and the rope illustrates, it is important to realize that a belief and the actual truth can be two very different things.

Therefore it is essential to examine and let go of the limiting beliefs that may be holding us back in our lives.
